The biggest difference between our Japanese taste and European peoples’ taste is in the concept of perfection. When I traveled in Greece and Italy and saw the classical architecture, I saw things that were made in a static image of perfection. I’m not interested in that kind of perfection — I’m tired of it. When I make something I don’t want to recreate my own mind exactly, so I always make 70 to 80% of what I think and then I throw it in front of the consumers to complete, and say wear it the way you like.
